Summerlin is known for its expansive outdoor recreational amenities, including dog-friendly parks. When you are a dog parent, finding the best places to take your buddy is crucial. When our canine family member gets to be out and about, it might even keep them from chewing up things in the pad. That being said, let’s review the best dog parks in downtown Summerlin based on factors like size, on-leash or off-leash policy, and location.
As Local As You Can Get
Village Green Park is a great dog park close by where you’ll enjoy the shade of the many trees, playground equipment and picnic tables as well. Technically dogs are not supposed to be off leash. There is security that do their rounds on a golf cart to the connecting parks and trails, and they will enforce this, but are very lenient if you have a well trained dog.
Cottonwood Canyon Park offers more of the hiking and dog trail experience. Dogs must be on leash and kindly do so if your dog tends to wander. There are a few looped trails and a set of stairs leading down into the wash, a beautiful wooden bridge, and some brilliantly green clearings. Dog owners here should bring their own bags to pick up after their dogs and keep them under control. To this point, the security has driven right by off-leash dogs if they are well-behaved and the owner has a leash visible.
Summerlin Centre Community Park is a large open grassy field space for various sports, and a chill place to walk the dog or play fetch in one of the wide open fields and doggy socializing is encouraged here. The view of the Spring Mountains to the west is very pleasant.
Spacious, Gated, & Off-Leash
Kellogg Zaher Dog Park is a nice drama free dog park that is decent size with lots of close parking, separate areas for big and little dogs, and fully enclosed, double security gates. This park is in a great area, is clean and well-groomed, but the knocks on it are limited lighting at night, limited seats, and only one shade overhang for those hot days.
Barkin’ Basin Dog Park is a pet recreation area a little further out where a dog can be a dog, on 7.75 acres, with 3 separate fenced spaces for different size dogs, shady seating and water fountains. The park also has beautiful green grass, with a tree-lined walking trail, a playground, grilling area, and a beautiful mountain view. Count on plenty of room for your dog to run free and mingle with the canine crew.
